Dr. Shun-ichi Amari, a mathematical neuroscientist and research advisor at Araya Inc., has been awarded the 40th (2025) Kyoto Prize in the Advanced Technology category.
This prestigious award recognizes his profound achievements: “Pioneering Contributions to Establishing the Theoretical Foundations of Artificial Intelligence and Establishing Information Geometry.”
Dr. Amari’s groundbreaking research in artificial neural networks, coupled with his establishment of the new field of information geometry and his proposal of numerous crucial theories, has profoundly influenced various domains. His contributions span both theoretical advancements and practical applications.
The Kyoto Prize is an international award originating in Japan, presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to the fields of science and technology as well as arts and philosophy. Each year, a total of three individuals, one from each of these three fields, are selected and honored.
